How many of you know that once words flow from your tongue, they are alive forever? Yes, as much as we sometimes want to snatch back our words, we cannot. Therefore, “Think Before Speaking!” should be our goal. Too often, we give little thought to what we will say until it is too late. Christians must ensure that words are seasoned with kindness and grace, even when upset. Even more so, it’s better not to spew out words during times of anger.
In terms of relationships, carefully spoken words will assist in developing good communication skills between individuals. Furthermore, we never want to have to “eat” our words. What comes around goes around. With the same measure of words we give out, we will encounter judgment. Additionally, my sisters, do not allow anyone to belittle you with words in your relationships. Everyone deserves respect in the same way we are to be respectful. “Think Before Speaking!”
As I conclude, think about these questions. Do you speak to others how you want others to talk to you? Are the things you say causing problems in your relationships? Not just in personal relationships but also in other relationships you may have(family, work, church, etc.). How do you ensure that grace seasons your words? Lastly, how do you respond when you are subject to harsh words? “Think Before Speaking!” should be first and foremost when communicating with others. Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. Proverbs 21:23. I’ll return next week with a new post, “Joy Like It’s Christmas!”
Be encouraged, and God bless!
Sister Jackie
I have definitely learned to think before speaking! A good rule of thumb is to pause for 3 seconds/count to 3 in your head before saying something in a reactionary manner. The words you put out there cannot be taken back – even with an apology.
Lord knows I have matured in this area!
Yes, pushing the pause button can save us a lot of sorrow in the long run. Because an apology may not be enough to remove the sting of our words. God bless you Monique and God’s loving words be with you always!
As always, Sister Jackie, what a timely word again! The tongue is a very powerful tool and it should be used to bless and not harm others. I pray psalm 141:3 that God would set a watch before my mouth and keep the door of my lips, while I obey what He is saying. Moving in haste can make waste and disaster when we are not watching, praying & obeying. God bless you and Thanks for allowing God to use you! Love always, Jacqueline
What powerful words!!! Thank you for sharing those potent words of wisdom. May God continue to bless you abundantly as you bless and encourage others. ❤️
Amen !! This is so true. Some words you speak into a person can make them or break them.
That’s so true! We never want our words to cause anyone pain or grief. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I appreciate you taking the time to comment on this post. May the Lord bless you real good!
