“Therapy-It’s OK!”

Last week, I had a wonderful time at our International Women’s Conference. Every speaker was dynamic and gave us much to glean from. Our General Supervisor’s encouraging words took us to another level. One thing that she said stuck with me and made an impact. She encouraged those who need therapy to get it. As saints of God, we often frown upon seeking help outside of prayer. Moreover, we all know Jesus is the key to our physical and mental healing, but sometimes, we must use our valuable resources here on earth. “Therapy-It’s Ok!”

Hence, someone recently told me, “Sometimes, in real-time, Jesus isn’t enough. You need Him plus other resources available.” What are your thoughts? I believe that prayer is always timely, but when things are happening, and we are going through heartache, pain, and depression, therapy can be soothing and helpful, too. Christian counselors know the value of prayer and mental health resources. Unfortunately, even those we see as strong sometimes struggle to put one foot before the other. Despite their love for God, their human frailty may allow doubt to creep into their heart. “Therapy!-It’s Ok!”

As I end this post, I encourage you, my sisters and brothers, too, to seek help if you are struggling with depression, loneliness, and heavy heartache. It is not uncommon for any of us to struggle with situations in our life. Without a doubt, some situations can quickly bring us to our knees, and while praying, we struggle to stand up again. Have you ever been there? If you need help, seek help, and don’t be ashamed. Jesus is yet the answer and can allow someone to give you the resources you need to get beyond your mental struggles.

Final word: Saints need to be whole to do God’s will. It’s hard to help someone else through their struggle if we struggle. “Therapy- It’s Ok!” Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Philippians 2:4. Next week, there will be a post from a guest writer.

Be encouraged, and God bless!

Thank you Sister Jackie! this is true, and we can only help someone if we are helped in our own struggle and therefore, I must seek help when we need it and not be ashamed! There is only shame when we pass up help that God sends us through other people! Amen and Amen!

    Amen!
Some believe that it is only ok to seek professional help when it is a physical problem, but, it’s not okay if it’s a mental problem. So glad that our General Supervisor encouraged those who need professional therapy, to get it. I truly believe that, in her saying it, it spiritually released many to get the help that they need. And, to me, no matter the problem, physical or mental, whether we seek professional help or not, “prayer” is always needed.
Thank you for sharing these powerful encouraging words, and may our God continue to Bless and keep you!

Thank you so much for your powerful and thought-provoking comments. I agree-“Some believe that it is only ok to seek professional help when it is a physical problem, but it’s not okay if it’s a mental problem.” And that is why some of the saints continue to struggle with depression, mental issues, and even thoughts of suicide. Yes, prayer is always needed to get us to total victory over our issues, whether physical or mental. Blessings be with you, upon you, and ever-present in your life. God bless you!
