“Just an Appetizer!”

The definition of appetizer is “a small dish or a drink taken before a meal or the main course of a meal to stimulate one’s appetite.” Another definition is “something that arouses or increases anticipation for what is to follow.” Well, such it is with life. Sometimes we receive small tidbits before being given the bigger things. This post was prompted by a conversation that I had with someone who had just experienced a break up without any warning. All appeared to be going well and Boom! Out of nowhere, the relationship was over.  As I was encouraging the young lady, I told her, “That was just an appetizer before the main course.”

Before we get what God truly has for us, we may experience some heartache and discouragement, but be of good cheer because the best is yet to come.  On Mother’s Day, my family and I went to dinner.  There was a two-hour wait initially.  The two hours turned into four hours, and then we were seated.  Ordering an appetizer, we would get it reasonably quickly, but it would take at least forty minutes if we ordered an entree. I politely said, “No, thank you. We are leaving.” I refused to wait almost another hour on top of the four hours.  My decision was acceptable to the rest of the family because everyone was tired.  I didn’t need the tidbit at that time. I needed the main course.  But, sometimes I want an appetizer before my main meal because I need the extra.

Sometimes God stimulates our appetite through small blessings to prepare us for greater ones.  So, don’t be discouraged, don’t fret or lose patience because your primary blessing hasn’t arrived yet.  It could be around the corner, waiting for God to finish prepping you. So, know when small things come your way they are just appetizers preparing the way for what is to come. God knows when you need an appetizer.  If you don’t need one, He will not send it your way.  But, if He does send one remember, it’s not the main course.  Greater is coming, so look up! But, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. St. Matthew 6:33.  I’ll be back next week with a new post, “Simply Forgiveness?”

Be encouraged, and God bless!

Good morning. I’m here writing in my journal about the greater things I’ve been expecting and the smaller things that have actually come my way. As I was writing your post came through my email and it was right on time. Thank you for reminder that the small things are the appetizers, but the main course will come. God bless you.
