“Free To Be!”

“Free To Be!” I have to be me. What about you? I realized long ago that I cannot change anyone or allow someone to change me. Often, when two individuals meet and are attracted to one another, they see stars through their dreamy eyes. However, at some point, they settle back on earth. As a result of their landing, they now get to see each other more clearly. Will they see only the good? No, but rather the good, maybe not so good, and all in between. Accordingly, we are not all the same. Thank God. Our differences can produce an excellent relationship. For example, if one person is always serious and the other always playful, the combination may build a relationship that has a good balance.

“Free To Be!” We all want to be free to be who we are. Hence, there are non-negotiables that we will not tolerate or accept in someone else. Nevertheless, on the other hand, we have to be patient with others and allow them to be who they are. After all, who is to say that our way is the best? We may think that way, but our thinking is not entirely true. Relationships are give, take, and compromise. As my sweet mother used to say, “It’s not Burger King; you can’t always have it your way!” So true.

As I conclude, please remember that for any relationship to grow, there must be room for growth. Trying to mold someone else into what we think the person should be is unfair nor will it work. You will not have a meaningful relationship with someone if your dislikes outweigh the likes. And vice versa. No matter your age, you cannot subsequently change someone else. Every relationship takes patience and some amount of work for it to be successful. We all desire to be “Free To Be!” who God created us to be. There will be flaws and differences between us and others, but being different can be good and work on our behalf. For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. Galatians 5:13. I’ll be back next week with a new post, “Adapt!”

Be encouraged, and God bless!
