“Don’t Follow Your Heart!”

How often do we hear people, and even ourselves, tell someone to follow their heart? We listen to it in songs, on social media, and from our friends and loved ones. But when the rubber meets the road, and the chicken meets the grease, we know it is not sound advice. Because we are flesh-born in iniquity, even when we come to the Lord, our flesh is warring against the spirit of God. Without a thought, our heart can lead us astray from God’s principles. “Don’t Follow Your Heart!”

There are people who we say have a beautiful heart. Why? Because they are so loving and kind. I know people like that. And I would like to think they view me in that way. Nevertheless, the Bible is the ultimate source of our life, and it speaks of the wickedness of the heart. King David asked God to search him and know his heart, a practice we should adopt daily. He also petitioned God to create in him a clean heart. Does this not speak to us? “Don’t Follow Your Heart!” follow the spirit of God. Think about when you were young and in love; the heart could make you do things you never thought you were capable of. The heart is dreamy, sometimes wanting to please others even when they are wrong. “Don’t Follow Your Heart!”

In conclusion, it will take much prayer and fasting to keep our hearts in alignment with God’s righteousness. Furthermore, we must be watchful. Additionally, our human desires must take a back seat to spiritual matters. The heart can not lead the way in our life henceforth. If our delight is in our awesome Savior, our desires will be in alignment with God’s will.

Moreover, the heart can not cause us to go along to get along with others. If we keep our minds on Jesus, our hearts will follow suit. Remember, the heart alone is desperately wicked and deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9)above all things, whether we like it or not! “Don’t Follow Your Heart!” And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6:5. I’ll return next week with a new post, “Experiences Have Power!”

Be encouraged, and God bless!
